2021 MLB World Series Predictions: LA Dodgers Tipped to Retain Title Red Sox at Long Odds

No Major League Baseball team has succeeded in winning successive World Series this side of the millennium, but the LA Dodgers have emerged the hot pick to do just that in 2021.

Projected Season Start Date: April 1

Projected Season End Date: November 3

Fresh from beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 to lift their first MLB championship since 1988, the Dodgers are down as +450 favorites to go back-to-back with William Hill sportsbook. 

The New York Yankees are the only other franchise who fall below +1000 odds at William Hill, while the Pittsburgh Pirates—who last played in (and won) a World Series in 1979—offer a higher price than any other team as +20000 dogs.

This was a particularly prosperous years for Los Angeles’ sports organisations after the Lakers also ended their wait for an NBA championship. Both they and the Dodgers weathered seasons gravely affected by the coronavirus pandemic to do the west coast proud:

One price that sticks out among MLB’s most recognised names is the Boston Red Sox out at +5000, not the kind of sum would expect of a side who won the World Series just two years ago. It’s understandable given the loss of Mookie Betts to the Dodgers last off-season, as well as the uncertainty surrounding the futures of their two elite starters, Chris Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez.

It’s far too premature to be solidifying 2021 World Series predictions considering the changes to come between now and the projected start date in April—so naturally we’ll take a crack at it. 

This isn’t a prediction for who looks the best value or looks underpriced but rather which team we believe will lift the 2021 World Series based on the evidence we have , and the Atlanta Braves fit the bill.

Predicted 2021 World Series Winner: Atlanta Braves (+1100)

Three-time winners of the National League East in each of the last three seasons, Atlanta have displayed noticeable progress under manager Brian Snitker and were inches from beating the Dodgers to a place in this year’s World Series. It wasn’t to be on that occasion, but at +1100 odds with William Hill NJ, there’s a lot to like about backing the Braves to beat that mark in 2021.

Marcell Ozuna’s move into free agency is one weapon that will require replacing, but the return of a fit Mike Soroka to the pitching staff balances things out. Soroka, 23, will join a very promising rotation alongside Max Fried, who attracted major plaudits in his absence this past season:

That’s without mentioning the major talents of first baseman Freddie Freeman, who recently became the first Atlanta Brave to be named MLB Player of the Year:

It’s been 21 years since Atlanta won a National League pennant to reach the World Series, but the Braves have shown all the progress under Snitker to suggest that may change in the foreseeable future.
